GROUSE

A common sound in the boreal forest is the scolding chitter of the red squirrel as it warns you away from its cache of food. The small mammel's primary diet is the seeds found in the cones of spruce and fir trees. They will stash quantities of these in burrows around the forest to save for the winter. Forgotten cashes are a souce for furture tree growth as the seeds sprout where they were burried. A great example of how the ecosystem maintains it's balance as the forest that sustains the squirrels is in turn sustained by them.
