As the name suggests the Boreal chickadee is found in the coniferous woods of the boreal forest, perfering spruce trees. These small hardy birds easily survive the cold northern winters. They nest in natural caveties or woodpecker holes low in the trunks of trees. Nests are lined with lichens, plant fibers and animal fur. They eat various insects and seeds from they trees they call home. They tend to be quieter during the nesting period making them elusive for birders.
